Terms of Service
These terms cover the Synth2Software website, the desktop app, the plug-in and the browser Studio. Buying or using any of them means you accept them.

Your license to the software
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the software on machines you own or control, up to the number of activations stated on the product page.
Licenses are bound to your machine. You may not sell, lend, share, sublicense, or transfer one. You may not share or publish your license key, redistribute the software or any part of it, defeat or work around activation, or use it to build a competing product.
What we own, and what you own
You are buying a license to use the software, not the software itself. We keep the intellectual property in Synth2Software itself — its source code, its interface and design, the randomizer settings and data files we ship with it, and the Synth2Software name and branding.
Patches, samples, instruments and audio you create with it are yours, permanently, and nothing in these terms changes that. There is no royalty, no credit requirement, and no restriction on using them commercially. We claim nothing in your work, and we do not take it back if you cancel, downgrade, or stop using the software.
Your patches are saved to your account so that your library follows you between computers and between the app and the Studio. That storage does not change who owns them.
What you sample
The autosampler records audio from hardware and plug-ins that you connect. Those recordings are yours as far as we are concerned — we have no claim on them.
What we cannot do is give you permission we do not have. If you sample the factory presets of a commercial synthesizer or plug-in, whether you may then redistribute the result — as a sample library, an instrument, or a product — is a question for that manufacturer's license, not ours. Using such material in your own music is normally fine; packaging and selling it often is not. Check the license of whatever you sampled before you sell it.
Your instrument
Synth2Software talks to your hardware over MIDI. It sends and receives MIDI and SysEx messages and does nothing else to your instrument — there is no firmware update, no low-level access, and nothing that can physically harm it.
But MIDI can change what is stored in your synthesizer, and you should know exactly where:
- Rolling and editing write to the temporary (edit) buffer. Nothing is stored permanently, and switching patches or powering off restores the instrument.
- The “save to the synth” functions write to a user memory slot, and will overwrite whatever is already in it. That is the point of them, and it is your choice each time.
Back up your instrument before you start. Most synthesizers can dump their memory to a file, and it is worth having. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for patches, settings, or other data lost or overwritten on a connected instrument, however that happens.
Publishing an expansion
You can package presets into an expansion and publish it, either free in the Community tab or, by arrangement with us, for sale in the Shop.
Only publish work you made. The app helps here: presets you imported from a file are automatically excluded when an expansion is packaged, and presets from someone else's expansion cannot be republished as your own. By publishing, you confirm that the presets are yours to share and that doing so infringes nobody else's rights.
When you publish, you grant us the license we need to actually run the feature: to store your expansion, and to copy and distribute it to users who acquire it, for as long as you keep it published. This license exists only so that we can deliver it — we do not claim ownership, and we will not sell a free Community expansion or use your work to promote something else without asking you first.
Making an expansion private again does not take it back from anyone. It disappears from the Community tab and nobody new can get it, while everybody who already has it keeps it. That is deliberate: we do not believe in removing something a person already has.
We may remove any published expansion at any time, including on a rights holder's complaint. Removing it from the store does not change your own setting, and lifting the removal puts your choice straight back.
Buying an expansion
Buying an expansion gives your account a permanent license to use its presets in Synth2Software. It is personal and non-transferable. You may use the sounds in your music, commercially, with no further permission needed.
You may not redistribute an expansion, share its file, resell it, or republish its presets as your own.
Expansion files are locked to the account and the computer that downloaded them, and each copy carries a signed record of the account it was issued to. If a file is shared, we can identify the account it came from. We keep this deliberately narrow — the record contains an account number and nothing personal — and the Privacy Policy explains exactly what is in it.
Your expansions remain available to re-download for as long as you have an account, including expansions whose author has since made them private.
Selling an expansion
Selling in the Shop is by arrangement with us and is enabled per account. If you sell:
- You set the price. A price of zero is allowed — that is still a Shop listing, with an order and a receipt, and is not the same as publishing to Community.
- We handle payment, delivery, and buyer support for the transaction.
- You are responsible for your own taxes on what you earn.
- Payout terms are agreed with you in writing before you list anything.
- You keep ownership of your work and can stop selling it at any time. Buyers who already have it keep it.
Subscriptions and payment
Subscriptions renew automatically at the stated interval until you cancel from your account. Canceling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period, and your access runs to the end of the period you have paid for.
One-time purchases do not renew. All sales are final except where the law says otherwise — if something has gone wrong with an order, email us and we will look at it.
Availability
We aim to keep the service running, but we do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted. Some features need our server — activation, the browser Studio, buying and downloading expansions. The desktop app's randomizer, editor, and your already-downloaded library keep working offline.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your license without refund if you breach these terms — in particular by sharing license keys, defeating activation, sharing or redistributing expansion files, publishing work that is not yours, or reversing a payment after delivery.
Where the breach looks like a mistake rather than a pattern, we would rather contact you first.
Liability
The software is provided as-is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will say so on this page and, where it is significant, in the app. Continuing to use Synth2Software after a change means you accept it.
